'Mrwebi says he was victimised after he reported abuse of the so called C-funds'
Advocate Lawrence Mrwebi has taken the stand at the Mokgoro Commission of Inquiry which is looking into his and advocate Nomgcobo Jiba's fitness to hold office.
After four weeks of damning evidence against Mrwebi, the advocate now has a chance to address the charges against him.
He is expected to address allegations related to his withdrawal of charges against former crime intelligence head Richard Mdluli and his support of Jackie Selebi's bid to escape prosecution.
EWN reporter Barry Bateman, who has been tracking the inquiry, says Mrwebi took his testimony back to 2004 in his response to the allegations made against him.
What Mrwebi is saying is that at one point in 2004, he came under some information that suggested that there was an abuse of the so-called confidential funds, the C-funds of the Scorpions.Barry Bateman, Reporter - EWN
He got information that this fund was being abused and he traced it back to officials in NPA headquarters and he says he did the right thing, wrote a report and submitted that report. That is where his problems he says started.Barry Bateman, Reporter - EWN
Bateman reports that Mrwebi says after he exposed the C-Fund, he became victimised and was accused of underperforming.
