[LISTEN] Azania in conversation with Khanyi Mbau ahead of 'Red Room' premiere

South African television host and actress Khanyi Mbau stars in a new thriller called the Red Room which is set to premiere on 25 February.

She plays Zama Marawa, the wife of a wealthy man who loses everything, plunging Zama into the underworld of human trafficking.

Mbau joined Azania Mosaka for this week's Friday Profile to share more about the production. She also explains why she doesn't have an agent and represents herself.

It's very dark, it's a different genre, completely, to what we're used to and what I do, like romcoms and comedy.

I resonate with the story, from where I come from - being married to a rich man, then I got the abuse and going through society by losing everything and just being a woman in South Africa that is judged on everything... That's just when I knew I need to be a part of this.

It has also got an issue attached to it which is human trafficking and women abuse.... but it's also got an element of entertainment. It's sexy, it's entertaining but yet it also lets you draw yourself towards yourself and say who am I between all the faces of Zama because she goes through different phases... every woman can identify with themselves and say this is where I am right now, how strong am I.
