The tool is aimed at helping teachers, as well as parents, diagnose Attention-Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder among children.

The Biomedical Engineering Research Group at Stellenbosch University has developed a screening tool to help diagnose Attention-Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder among children.

Biomedical Engineer from Stellenbosch University, Romano Swarts says the tool will help teachers recommend that parents take children for medical tests once related problems have been identified in the classroom.

With this tool, the aim was to provide an objective, quantitative measure to profile what a certain type of ADHD looks like.

With that, one is able to provide that necessary feedback to parents to see how the child is performing on medication and whether the child does have ADHD or not.

The tool is still in the research and development phase and the team is looking for additional funding to take the project further, hopefully into commercialisation.
