DA leader Mmusi Maimane discusses the DA's manifesto and a range of electoral issues such as land, inequality and economic growth.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane insists that his party will grow in the upcoming elections and adds that he doesn't plan for failure.

Maimane is confident that the DA govern in the Northern Cape, Gauteng and retain the Western Cape come 8 May.

I'm comfortable that as an organisation, we will grow at that we will take the DA forward.

Mmusi Maimane, Party leader - DA

I don't plan for failure. I'm planning for a party that is growing.

Mmusi Maimane, Party leader - DA

He spoke to 702 and CapeTalk host Eusebius McKaiser about the DA's manifesto and a range of electoral issues.

On economic growth

Maimane says if the DA were to govern, it would grow the economy by 3% in three years.

This, he says, will be achieved by focusing on city-led economic growth and by targeting key sectors such as tourism, manufacturing, agriculture and ICTs..

Cities can stimulate micro enterprise in a far more effective way than national government.

Mmusi Maimane, Party leader - DA

Our immediate plan is to grow the economy by 3%, and the medium term is 5% growth to match up our African peers.

Mmusi Maimane, Party leader - DA

He promises to create a job for every household by making labour law easier and creating a national jobs programme for youth.

On inequality

The DA leader says that in order to redress inequality there must be the redistribution of assets. He says this will include accelerated title deed transfers, creating equal education, job creation and shareholding..

The greatest exacerbater of inequality is the lack of job creation.. If we put a job in every home, we create the opportunity for people to get onto the economy.

Mmusi Maimane, Party leader - DA

Let us fight for the rights of those who don't work.

On land reform

Maimane says Section 25 of the Constitution does not have to be amended in order to achieve land restitution.

He argues that land expropriation needs to be compensated based o what courts find just and equitable.

On racism

Maimane says South Africa has legislative framework to deal with racism.

He says the DA strives for one South Africa for all where racial polarisation is not perpetuated by political parties.
