The organisation's central committee held its first three day plenary session for 2019 at the weekend.

The South African Communist Party says while it is strongly opposed to the privatisation of Eskom, it supports the restructuring of the company, provided it is aimed at making the utility function more effectively and efficiently and does not place workers’ jobs in jeopardy.

The organisation's central committee held its first three day plenary session for 2019 at the weekend.

The announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa to split Eskom into three entities has raised concerns over possible job losses, with labour unions threatening to take the streets.

SACP’s second deputy general-secretary Solly Mapaila says Eskom cannot be devoid of an opportunity to renew itself.

Eskom should from time to time revitalise itself to be more relevant, for instance on the question of its transition to renewables.

Solly Mapaila, Second deputy general-secretary - SACP

We should not question the state's role, this is a fallacy - that state institutions cannot be efficient. There are many state institutions that are far more effective than private sector institutions.

Solly Mapaila, Second deputy general-secretary - SACP

Private capital does not look at the interests of everybody.
