Kgomotso Phahlane

Former police commissioner Kgomotso Phahlane was arrested and released on R20 000 bail.

Former police commissioner Kgomotso Phahlane was arrested and released on bail of R20 000 on Friday.

His arrest relates to a contract worth an estimated R86 million to supply blue emergency lights for police vehicles.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) spokesperson Moses Dlamini says the case has been under investigation since last year and saw an arrest of four police officials.

He says Phahlane's arrest had nothing to do with the sacking of Ipid's head Robert McBride.

This is how it should be and it shouldn't be informed or influenced by any political developments around Ipid.

Ipid should act independently and this what happened in this case.
