The Western Cape Education Department embarks on a new online admissions website system at approximately 350 schools this year. This is something that has been done by the Gauteng Education Department. The system will also remind parents if they have not applied to a minimum of three schools.
The department urges parents to contact the school beforehand or visit the school's website to check their admission policy and the documents that each individual school requires.
Bronagh Hammond who is the director of communications at Western Cape Education Department said that they have approximately 1500 schools in the Western Cape and they have decided to go with the 350 school for now to test the system.
In this case the information of parents is vital, because we will need to get in touch with them once the application has been accepted. We have had a problem in the previous years of parents being accepted in more than two school and when they decide to go with the school of their choice they then don't notify the other schools about their choice, leaving the schools to hold a place for one learner. Now with this system if you choose one school, the name of your child will fall off from the other schools that you have been accepted to after the July 12.— Bronagh Hammond, Director of communications - Western Cape Education Department
We focus on those 350 schools this year in terms of providing internet for the parents to come into the school and do the online application. We have people that we have trained to assist them with the process.— Bronagh Hammond, Director of communications - Western Cape Education Department
The department encouraged parents and caregivers to apply early in this process and not to wait until the last minute to apply. Parents are also encouraged to apply to at least three schools, including their closest school.
