Will the weather hold out for the Cape Town Cycle Tour this weekend?

Thousands of cyclists are set to descend on the Mother City this coming weekend to take part in the gruelling Cape Town Cycle Tour.

The annual event, of which this will be the 41st, kicks off at the historic Grand Parade precinct in the CBD.

Fairweather riders will be keen to know how the weather is likely to hold up for the more than 100km race.

The tour's director David Bellairs is hopeful.

Weather SA is predicting winds of between 30-40 kph and that's very manageable.

David Bellairs, Director - Cape Town Cycle Tour

Bellairs says when it comes to logistics and safety they have learned a lot from previous years.

We've reviewed significantly our disaster management plans from last year...around marshall training and compliance.

David Bellairs, Director - Cape Town Cycle Tour

There were a number of incidents last year, all of them beyond our control, but we've taken the incidents on board. We've looked at how we react to an incident on the route on the day. We've created more standby teams en route to react faster.
