Would you know what to do in an emergency situation?

How confident are you that if it came to it, you could provide first aid to someone who needs it? Perhaps even save a life?

Samantha Adams is a first aider who saw a need to make first aid training available to people in Athlone.

She spoke to John Maytham about her first aid workshops and who she's targetting.

I started with a workshop for adults in 2014. I started seeing the outcome and realising that people really need this, but they can't always afford it.

Adams says she covers a range of topics in the workshops.

I try to pick a different topic for each workshop, so it might be wounds and bleeding, CPR, drowning, seizures, strokes, heart attacks -we covered quite a lot.

Last year Samantha started taking her workshops into local schools to equip young people in Cape Town with essential first aid skills.

I held a workshop at the local library and I said OK, from 8 years old and it was amazing how many primary school children came and how they responded to the workshops.
