Philippe Hoeblich, CEO of PayGas, talks about the launch of Pay As You Gas stations and what it will mean for poorer communities.

Philippe Hoeblich, CEO of PayGas, talks to Kieno Kammies about what the launch of Pay As You Gas stations in Cape Town, and what it will mean for poorer communities who cannot always afford to buy full tanks of gas.

Hoeblich explains how the system works.

It is like a petrol station, but it is gas. You come with your cylinders and ask for R10 or R30, and it allows low-income families the opportunity to cook every day on safe and affordable energy.

Philippe Hoeblich, CEO - PayGas

Currently, people are forced to pay for a 5 kg minimum cylinder, he explains, and that is often unaffordable. You do not have to fill up an entire gas cylinder, he adds.

We developed this technology to break this minimum 5 kg barrier.

Philippe Hoeblich, CEO - PayGas
