Why do sportspeople play on with concussion?

Former Springbok Pat Lambie has revealed how, during his career, he often continued playing despite having a concussion.

The 28-year-old retired from rugby earlier this year, following medical advice.

In an interview with The Times, Lambie revealed how he continued playing during last year's European Champions Cup semi-final against Munster because he didn't want to miss out on the opportunity to play in a final.

But how common is it among sportsmen and women that they will hide a concussion in order to stay on the field?

John Maytham spoke to Dr John Patricios of Sports Concussion South Africa to find out.

In the past, we've relied very much on self-reporting of symptoms.
