State capture inquiry continues with testimony from Eskom officials

Eskom’s Gert Opperman and Johann Bester have corroborated some of the testimony that has already been heard at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture.

The state capture inquiry resumed on Friday morning with more testimony from Eskom officials.

The inquiry has been hearing evidence on the corruption and mismanagement at the power utility for three weeks now.

Eyewitness News reporter Clement Manyathela was at the commission.

Gert Opperman is the one that has been taking the stand since early this morning and what he has done is corroborate some of the testimony that has been presented by Snehal Nagar and Eskom's treasurer. He has spoken about the prepayment of Optimum Coal Mine from Eskom to Tegeta. He is speaking about some of the penalties that Eskom had put out against Optimum Coal Mine and were then reduced.

Most of these officials from Eskom, are expected to corroborate what we have already heard from senior officials.

Manyathela says as soon as the evidence have been corroborated, the Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo is expected to invoke some of the rules of the commission and call on people who have been implicated to testify.
