Dutch Reformed Church's decision not to recognise gay marriages overturned

The North Gauteng High Court has set aside the Dutch Reformed Church's decision not to recognise gay marriages.

In 2015, the church decided it would accept gay marriage but backtracked a year later, saying same-sex marriages contradicted Christian doctrine.

Dutch Reformed minister, Laurie Gaum says this is an invitation to revisit the church's point of view. and refamiliarise themselves with the gospel.

I think they should be thankful for this ruling and welcome it because we are also blessed with secular institutions that sometimes help us to move forward, especially when we are blindsided. We need to be stretched somewhat and re-think our positions and what we have believed forever.

Laurie Gaum, Dutch Reformed minister

It is high time. We need to embrace each other, this is the love of God which is all encompassing.
