Car talk - Jaguar's new fully electric SUV rated

The Jaguar I-Pace was voted "Car of the Year" on Tuesday at the European Car of the Year Awards 2019. The first question Jeremy van Wyk wanted answered on this weekend's car talk, is whether Jaguar's first fully electric SUV is, really, fully electric.

Car expert Jacob Mahokoa could firmly set his mind at rest.

The first thing a lot of people ask is, electric? No petrol? I'm like, no petrol at all.

Jacob Mashokoa, Car expert

But how much range can you get out of the I-Pace battery?

The power of this electric battery alone is quite amazing.. The I-pace pushes up to 466 kilometres on one charge.

Jacob Mashokoa, Car expert

Essentially you've got an SUV that can sort of play around in the city and do school runs, but again if you're trying to do a Johannesburg to Durban trip all you've got to do is stop at Harrismith (to recharge).

Jacob Mashokoa, Car expert

Mashokoa's only problem with the design of the car is the rear, but he's impressed with the rest.

When you look at the rear of the car I'm not immediately impressed... but the front of the car, I think it's got that growl, that Jaguar growl.

Jacob Mashokoa, Car expert

When you look at the design and the outlay on the inside of the car, definitely the quality of the Brits, of the Jaguar. You know it's got everything that a Jaguar would have.
