Rescue SA to assist in Mozambique as Cyclone Idai makes landfall at midnight

Regions of Mozambique have already been affected by flooding as Cyclone Idai approaches the country and is expected make landfall in North Coast of the country by midnight on Friday.

It is believed pre-storm flooding has already killed 66 people there.

Rescue South Africa landed safely in Mozambique on Wednesday night as part of a joint effort with Mozambican authorities.

Rescue South Africa'ss Ian Scher says the team is on their way to an area North West of Beira.

We have offered our services to disaster management and we will essentially go and standby there and render assistance to wherever is needed.

We have got a group of advanced life support paramedics and rescue technicians, boats, equipment and whatever we think we may need in case something happens.
