State Capture Inquiry

Jonas not budging, maintains his version of events about meeting Duduzani Zuma

Former deputy minister of finance Mcebisi Jonas returned to the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture to be cross-examined by Duduzane Zuma's legal representatives on Friday.

Read: 'Jonas's evidence was breathtaking'

Associate editor at Tiso Blackstar, Ranjeni Munusamy who is following the commission, says Jonas spent the first part of the morning explaining the hostility he faced when he was finance deputy minister.

With the cross-examination, what Mr Zuma's advocate is trying to do is breakdown Jonas's version of events.

Ranjeni Munusamy, Associate editor - Tiso Blackstar

But Mr Jonas is persistent in all his responses and that he sticks by the version he presented at this commission when the former minister testified in August last year, remember he was one of the first witnesses.

Ranjeni Munusamy, Associate editor - Tiso Blackstar

He maintains the course of events about meeting Mr Zuma and then travelling with him to the Gupta house. He says he didn't know where he was taken to. At the Gupta house, he met Mr Hlongwane as they were being taken into the house and then a Gupta brother came in and made the offer to him.

Ranjeni Munusamy, Associate editor - Tiso Blackstar

He maintains and sticks by that version.
