[LISTEN] 'The future, right here' - caller describes CT kids' climate march

15 March 2019 4:14 PM
SA cities took part in the youth climate protests held around the globe on Friday, inspired by Swedish schoolgirl Greta Thunberg.

On a Friday last August, schoolgirl activist Greta Thunberg held the first school climate strike, outside Sweden's parliament.

The 16-year old started a weekly vigil in Stockholm, demanding faster action to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

She set off a world-wide movement and on Friday kids around the globe took part in climate strikes in over 2000 locations.

School children in South Africa also turned out in various cities.

Pippa Hudson got 'goosebumps' listening to caller Fabio describing the scene outside parliament in Cape Town.

Kids started streaming in from every single corner around parliament. There's placards, there's music, there's screaming, there's shouting, there's hooting. There's the future, right here.

It's all centred around our climate, there's no Planet B.

Kids are just so creative and so inspiring, it's amazing - 'if you adults can't do it, we will'. That's one of the common themes going around.
