Fikile Mbalula confirms Gupta brother's phone call

The African National Congress (ANC)'s head of elections Fikile Mbalula has taken the stand at the Zondo commission of inquiry into state capture on Friday.

In his testimony, Mbalula confirmed that he received a phone call from one of the Gupta brothers congratulating him on his promotion to cabinet even before he was informed.

EWN reporter Theto Mahlakoana who has been watching the proceedings at the inquiry speaks to Ray White.

Mbalula is resolute because there were conversations in ANC about the influence that the Gupta family had.

80 members of the ANC NEC did nothing after Mblula went to them and emotionally pleaded with them about there being a need for something to be done about the Gupta problem.

He went into that 2011 meeting and told them that he had been approached by this family and told that he would be appointed as sports minister before he knew about it.
