[LISTEN] Former Bosasa Auditor testifies at Zondo Commission
Former Bosasa auditor Peet Venter testified at the Zondo commission of inquiry in Parktown on Tuesday with some startling revelations - including a directive from CEO Gavin Watson instructing him to pay for the legal fees of former SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng after he was fired from the SABC.
Venter said they paid the bill in two payments through a dormant company called Miotto Trading to the account of Motsoeneng's lawyer Zola Majavu.
Venter also told the Commission that Angelo Agrizzi coerced him into compiling an affidavit in December 2017 which details Watson’s alleged crimes including tax evasion, fraud and racketeering.
Karima Brown spoke to Co-Author, of the Shadow State: The Politics of State Capture Professor Mark Swilling to unpack the testimony.
I had assumed that it was a matter of time before something emerged that would allow us to understand Agrizzi. This is not a character who has some demascus road experience and decides ok, I have been a bad guy now let me go to the Zondo Commission. Anybody who believes that story is just naive.Peet Venter, Former Bosasa auditor
These are internal power struggles and the kinds of people who become crooks are not exactly the greatest facilitators of conflict amongst themselves. They fall out with each other, we saw that in a number of different envonrlments. Anybody who decides to take on Gavin Watson... this is a master strategist.Peet Venter, Former Bosasa auditor
Venter says it will be interesting to what additional evidence will emerge surrounding illegal payments made under Watson's tenure.
