Taxi association chair denies slain brother was involved in taxi killings

A relative of the man shot dead during suspected taxi violence in Johannesburg on Sunday has vehemently denied his brother had any involvement in previous taxi-related violence.

Vincent Mpungose and a passenger were shot at while driving close to Eastgate Mall - Mpunguse died from his injuries.

His brother, Mbongiseni Mpungose - himself the chairperson of the Sizwe Taxi Association - claims the shooting is linked to an ongoing taxi war between the Sizwe Taxi Association and the Kliprivier Taxi Association which has spilled over from Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal.
