Good news Thursday: Hillcrest Kwikspar launches plastic recycling initiative

A supermarket in Durban is doing its bit for the environment with the introduction of a plastic recycling program.

Hillcrest Kwikspar is encouraging customers to earn money in exchange for returning their supermarket plastics.

Customers will receive credit for the value of the plastics returned.

Customers will also be able to follow the recycling journey of the items they have returned.

Azania spoke to the owner of Hillcrest Kwikspar Mike Edlinger.

It was one of those moments where my wife and myself were thinking how can we do good in our own community. We generally live in the communities we serve and I think it does tell that our community is really committed to the drive in reducing plastic.

Mike Edlinger, Owner - Hillcrest Kwikspar

Our distribution centre has been very forward thinking and they have had a recycling programme in place for years that we have been using.
