'ANC, on what basis do you have an opinion on a book you haven't read?'

Eusebius McKaiser questions the ANC's reaction to Pieter-Louis Myburgh new book on the alleged corruption of Magashula.

Journalist Pieter-Louis Myburgh has released a new book titled Gangster State - Unravelling Magashule's Web of Capture.

The book details how the African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashula allegedly used undemocratic means to cling to power in the Free State.

The ANC has dismissed the claims made in Myburgh's book, calling it fake news.

Show host Eusebius McKaiser says it is unsurprising that the ANC is going after The Sunday Times and The City Press for providing a detailed summary of what is contained in the book.

Here is a message to the ANC. If you are an ANC politician, a spokesperson, an ANC voter, and an ANC sympathiser, you can't have an opinion about a book you haven't read.

Eusebius McKaiser, Presenter

Maybe on some other stations, you can try your best and call in to review a book you haven't read, not on The Eusebius McKaiser Show.

Eusebius McKaiser, Presenter

It is extremely unlikely that any of the ANC leaders that are relying on Ace Magashula actually know what the contents of the book are.

Eusebius McKaiser, Presenter

I don't have an opinion on Pieter-Louis Myburgh, and you know why I don't have an opinion? Because I have not read it.

Eusebius McKaiser, Presenter

So on what basis can Luthuli House have an opinion? You can't have an opinion on a book you haven't read.

Eusebius McKaiser, Presenter

He adds that the ruling party should be embarrassed they have a view on a book they have not read.

What is worse than giving an opinion on a book you haven't read, is to then have a public opinion on it. At least behind closed doors, you can say Pieter-Louis Myburgh's timing of this book is off, you can call him Stratcom or fake news.

Eusebius McKaiser, Presenter

But publically, not only are you anti-intellectual, to review a book you have not read but on top of that, you have the audacity of trying to release statements that summarise the review of the book you haven't read.

Eusebius McKaiser, Presenter

This, in a sense, says a lot about the ANC and it also tells you a lot about why we get such low returns for the high amount of public money that is invested in education. Because when what is being role modelled is the kind of anti-intellectualism that it is unsurprising that we have this kind of leadership.

Eusebius McKaiser, Presenter
