The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviews Mpufane before he heads to the Big Apple as Hub Head for SA Tourism.

Selling South Africa is about all the goodness we have. How do you tell that story simply and remind people how special we are.

Jerry Mpufane, Chairperson - M&C Saatchi Johannesburg

Between eight and 10 [foreign tourist arrivals] equate to a job…

Jerry Mpufane, Chairperson - M&C Saatchi Johannesburg

Jerry Mpufane, Chairperson of M&C Saatchi Johannesburg, is heading for New York where he will take up the position of Hub Head in the Americas for SA Tourism.

It is a privilege to get the opportunity to fly the South African flag, and to join the efforts of positioning our country as a fantastic holiday destination for the people of the Americas. I believe that the past few years in advertising agency executive management have prepared me for this very important role. I am eternally grateful for an experience filled with great success at M&C Saatchi Abel, an agency that is led by some of the best talent in our country, who work on some of the most sought-after client brands.

Jerry Mpufane, Chairperson - M&C Saatchi Johannesburg

Mpufane has worked on some of South Africa’s most iconic campaigns.

He is also the Jury President of the Bookmark Awards, which assesses the best that the South African digital publishing industry has to offer.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Mpufane for his weekly “ShapeShifter” feature.

Listen to the interview in the audio below (and scroll down for more quotes from it).

I’m very lucky! Totally privileged… [New York is] an exciting city.

Jerry Mpufane, Chairperson - M&C Saatchi Johannesburg

We [South Africa] lost our way a little bit… sort of the last 10 years or so…

Jerry Mpufane, Chairperson - M&C Saatchi Johannesburg

I grew up in Ga-Rankuwa, a small township outside of Pretoria. Very little happens there… People like myself are miracles!

Jerry Mpufane, Chairperson - M&C Saatchi Johannesburg

There is no substitute for hard work… it comes across clichéd… but that’s what it is.

Jerry Mpufane, Chairperson - M&C Saatchi Johannesburg

There is a clear strategy around positioning South Africa…

Jerry Mpufane, Chairperson - M&C Saatchi Johannesburg

Your best people should be at the source of the business you seek…

Jerry Mpufane, Chairperson - M&C Saatchi Johannesburg

There is a plan… We just need to execute…

Jerry Mpufane, Chairperson - M&C Saatchi Johannesburg

We don’t knock on the door of somebody who has never left their home…

Jerry Mpufane, Chairperson - M&C Saatchi Johannesburg

South Africa is endowed with natural beauty… We have it in abundance…

Jerry Mpufane, Chairperson - M&C Saatchi Johannesburg
