Thieves stole your stuff? Website helps you find it, prevents them from selling

Everybody knows in their heart what is just and what is right!

Kobus van Staden, Redflagit.com

Kobus van Staden, sick of crime, wanted to do something, so he created Redflagit.com.

It’s only been live for three days, but he has high hopes for it.

The idea with the free-to-use, not-for-profit website is that if you have lost or found something, you upload it with its unique identifiers so people can discover each other.

Someone has your stuff, and he’s trying to sell it.

By registering a found item, the system red-flags it and allows honest merchants, pawnbrokers, second-hand dealers, auctioneers or prospective customers to identify the object as missing or stolen.

Good Samaritans may also wish to red flag an item they found in the hopes of locating the owner and returning it to her.

The website protects users’ identities.

No money exchanges hands but, if there are costs involved such as shipping charges, Redflagit.com will act as arbitrators in the negotiation and make arrangements for the pick-up, tracking and safe delivery of the returns.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Van Staden.
