Journalist Pieter-Louis Myburgh says he has been in constant contact with his legal representatives and thre is no summons or anything formal on the table after African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Ace Magashule threatened to take legal action against him.
Myburgh has released a new book titled Gangster State - Unravelling Magashule's Web of Capture, detailing how Magashule allegedly used undemocratic means to cling to power in the Free State.
In an interview with eNCA's Samkele Maseko, Magashule said Myburgh must appear before the courts to have his claims tested, accusing the journalist of lying.

Myburgh explains that a legal proceeding brought about by a defamation suite allows the opposing party to file for what is called discovery documents that might help disprove the allegations.
In this instance, Myburgh says, Magashule would have to indicate which parts of the book he disputes as fact and then he [Myburgh] would be able to provide forensic information in his possession.
To broadly issue threats about taking somebody to court for defamation is one thing but once again you would have to indicate what portions or indications of corruption in the book he takes exception with and what exactly he is contesting.— Pieter-Louis Myburgh, Journalist - News 24
Magashule claims Myburgh did not send a series of questions surrounding the allegations but the journalist says he has evidence.
#AceMagashule saying I didn’t send him 60 questions. Please listen to ANC spokesperson Dakota Legoete discussing the queries on @SAfmRadio with @StephenGrootes at around 9mins into the interview https://t.co/1Ju1pZYIsJ— Pieter-Louis Myburgh (@PLMyburgh) April 4, 2019
There was this very detailed set of queries sent to him that they had two weeks to consider. Mr Dakota Legoete was the spokesperson of the ANC [at the time]. Mr Legoete is on the record as saying to one radio station that the query was sent to him, he and Magashule spoke about it and Magashule indicated that he would be handling the queries.— Pieter-Louis Myburgh, Journalist - News 24
