NPA says there are no new appointments but restructuring process is in place

In her efforts to stabilise National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the new National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Shamila Batohi has begun implementing her restructuring plan.

Earlier this week it was reported that the Advocate assigned top prosecutors in senior positions and told staff at the NPA that she has signed an authorisation allowing prosecutors to share information with the Zondo commission of inquiry for possible prosecution.

NPA spokesperson Bulelwa Makeke says while Batohi has briefed staff on her restructuring plans , there have been some obstacles.

Things did not go as quickly as she had envisaged so really these come together as interim measures, moving people around in the organisation in terms of where they would best fit her strategy going forward.

There is no new appointment at the moment contrary to what she had expected, at least by now, to do but I think those are things that are still in the pipeline and I think she will be able to announce as things happen in that concern.

Speaking on the investigative directorate , Makeke says the nuts and bolts are being put together behind the scenes.

You would appreciate that it is a massive structure to put together. There is a lot of work behind the scenes but it does not stop the liaison with the Zondo commission and that is why she has put in place these measures where there are some people liaising directly with the commission with a particular focus on the commission. .

A process to appoint a head of the newly formed investigative directorate is underway and an announcement is expected soon.
