CoCT shuts down MyCiti services in Khayelitsha amid violent protests

Protestors in Somerset West and in Khayelitsha, Cape Town took the streets to vent their frustrations over housing and service delivery in the area.

Mayco member for transport, Felicity Purchase, says the protests have affected the MyCiti bus service since Tuesday and the service is still not running.

She says the City is working closely with the South African Police Service (SAPS) to keep an eye on the situation.

Mayco Member for Safety and Security JP Smith says SAPS is legally responsible for managing public disorder incidents and the City will follow its instruction.

There's a significant criminal element involved here, but for the rest of it, it is largely political with BLF, EFF, and ANC trying to out relevance each other in terms of instigating protests.
