ANC's new 'political education school' hopes to rebuild party values

President Cyril Ramaphosa launched the African National Congress (ANC)’s political school named after struggle stalwart, Oliver Tambo on Thursday.

Read: 'The party is divided into two - the ANC of thugs and the ANC of pseudo-saints'

The school will offer 13 courses including leadership, political economy, developmental state, ANC vision, values and principles, Africa in the global economy, gender and women's emancipation.

OR Tambo School of Leadership board member and principal, Dr David Masondo talks to 702's Bongani Bingwa about its objectives.

We are interested in ideas, and as a result of that, we have built a school to build the intellectual capacity of our members and leaders to serve South Africa.

He weighs in on the burning of copies of Pieter-Louis Myburgh's book Gangster State: Unraveling Ace Magashule's Web of Capture at Tuesday's Johannesburg book launch.

The ANC condemns the burning of the book and yesterday, the president reiterated that the burning of books is not what the ANC is and what it shouldn't be.

He says that the party will be taking disciplinary action against those involved.

The school is named after OR Tambo who was a serious intellectual, a sought after leader, and we wanted to use this political education school to rebuild ourselves.

He believes there is a need for such a school, as many ANC members not have the opportunity to attend university.

We have some members who didn't qualify for a university thus we put these courses together to make sure that we have everyone and teach them what the ANC stands for.
