Sources who expose corruption aren't always clean, says 'Gangster State' author

Investigative journalist and author Pieter-Louis Myburgh says whistle-blowers and sources who come forward to expose corruption are often tainted themselves.

Myburgh says this, however, should not detract from the information and revelations provided by those sources.

On the John Maytham Show, he explains to a studio audience that it's difficult to find someone with a "front row seat to corruption" who has not at some stage been partially implicated in dodgy dealings themselves.

People who approach these commissions of inquiry and those who testify in court are often tainted people. That shouldn't detract from the value that the information brings to the table.

Pieter-Louis Myburgh, Investigative journalist and author

Myburgh has been headline material this week after he launched his explosive book, Gangster State.

The book details allegations of grandscale corruption by ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule.

It's difficult to find clean people that will bring information to the fore.

Pieter-Louis Myburgh, Investigative journalist and author

If you're involved in a corrupt structure, or state capture network, of course your dealings are going to remain in the domain of corrupt people.

Pieter-Louis Myburgh, Investigative journalist

Myburgh says that since the launch, it appears new sources and new information are emerging to corroborate his book.

He also foresees new testimonies at the Zondo Commission's Inquiry into State Capture.

We always hope that there would be a snowball effect in terms of information. It's happening.
