Rabie Ridge residents fight off 'land grabbers' occupying land

In the latest series of protests around Gauteng, residents of Rabie Ridge in Midrand have pelted stones at the so-called land grabbers along Modderfontein Road.

EWN reporter Edwin Ntshidi says residents are fighting over a piece of land along Modderfontein and Mayibuye Roads, with the aim of preventing outsiders from occupying it.

Residents of Rabie Ridge are saying that can never happen...

But at this stage, the situation appears to be calm. Police got involved earlier on and fired rubber bullets.

Ntshidi says one of the so-called land grabbers stated that the EFF told them to occupy that particular area of land.

He said that nobody owns this land and the EFF has given us this land and whether people from Rabie Ridge wants this piece of land or not we are going to build here by fire, by force.

Edwin Ntshidi, Reporter - EWN

The police are currently at the scene but there is no sight of government officials, says Ntshidi.
