CapeTalk listeners get behind Marilee to help with transport costs

Marilee van der Merwe wakes up at 4.30am daily to get to the University of the Western Cape on time. She is studying Bachelor of Commerce Degree (BCom). Her mother is a domestic worker and Marilee’s bus fare to the University costs R200 a week. She also happens to live in a garage, without proper facilities.

Marilee’s story was first published in the Cape Times and Temba alerted us to the story. She wanted to make a donation of three weeks’ worth of transport fees for Marilee. This touched the hearts of other CapeTalk listeners to assist.

Listeners pledged in total around R9 600.
