[LISTEN] Naledi Pandor: I didn't want to be treated differently from any student

Minister of Higher Education Naledi Pandor recently received her Ph.D. from the University of Pretoria.

She says this degree has been long overdue but she put it on hold after her masters because she needed to assist family members to complete their education.

When she hit 60 she realised it was now or never.

But she applied just like any other student, she says.

I applied and I got in.

She insisted on being treated like any other student.

I attended all the tutorials. People tried this whole 'minister' thing and I said no, my name is Naledi.

I was given a tough time in the tutorials with my topic. I even had to change my topic. I was humbled many times actually, which was excellent.
