Two trains torched over the weekend, Prasa says it is not the commuters

A suspect is in custody following the torching of two trains at Cape Town station on Sunday.

Last year the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) informed members of Parliament it lost R636 million t train fires over the past three and a half years.

John Maytham spoke to Prasa's group chief strategy officer Dr Sipho Sithole about what is the plan to curb the torching of trains.

One never prepares for any particular day. We can ask ourselves numerous questions but what is clear is that there are people who are hell-bent on undermining the efforts of government in improving passenger rail travel.

There are sinister forces that are doing this. We are all baffled by what this is happening in Cape Town and this is not the commuters.
