24-year-old man wins R11 billion prize

Manuel Franco

A 24-year-old man is the winner of the $768.4 million (R11 billion) US Powerball jackpot.

He bought the ticket in March and knew he won, but waited almost a month before claiming his colossal prize.

Manuel Franco is taking his winnings in one lump sum, saying he wants to “help out the world” and pay for a family member’s university tuition.

I'm sure you'll never see me as like one of the people who went bankrupt or broke or anything like that. I plan to live my life normal as much as possible.

Manuel Franco

Franco says, now that he has won, he’ll never play the lotto again.

Ray White (in for Bruce Whitfield on The Money Show) spoke about Franco and his winnings.
