Children grow very fast. Before you know it they’ll be old enough to start schooling and the question remains; are you ready?
In South Africa, Grade R is the entry year into the foundation phase of primary schooling. Children between four or five years of age are eligible to enter Grade R.
We spoke to Dr Naseema Shaik, a lecturer in Language Education at Cape Peninsula University of Technology, about getting children ready for Grade R.
Dr Shaik conducted research into how Grade R teachers understood child participation and how it was implemented in their classrooms.
