Soweto mom to brave Kilimanjaro in aid of children with burn injuries
Tebogo Tsotetsi is part of the 12-member team who will attempt to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro in June.
The aim is to raise funds for the purchase of a laser machine for the burn victims of Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Diepkloof, Johannesburg.
Tsotetsi is a mother from Soweto and is doing this in honour of her two boys who got burned in a house fire in 2014.
Unfortunately, Kutlwano died, leaving his brother Molemo, who was five at the time, with 50% burns across his body.
She speaks to CapeTalk's Refilwe Moloto about the preparation for the big climb.
I want to make a difference in children's lives because I realised with my own son that after surviving the fire somehow they lose confidence and self-esteem because of the scars.Tebogo Tsotetsi, mother to burn victim survivor
I try to instill the values in him that you are not your scars, these scars don't describe who you are.Tebogo Tsotetsi, mother to burn victim survivor
The laser machine cost R2 million and each member has to raise between R70 - R80 000.
Tsotetsi started training for the big climb three months ago.
She joined Avela Foundation, a non-profit organisation committed to helping children with burn injuries about two years ago.
