Eyewitness News reporters give updates on the rallies across the country.

The International Workers' Day gave parties a chance to convince voters to vote for them.

Workers day rallies around the country turned into campaign trails, with parties reemphasising their manifesto promises to voters.

ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed supporters at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont, Durban, where union federation Cosatu hosted its national Workers' Day rally.

Speaking to Joanne Joseph, Eyewitness reporter Nthakoana Ngatane says there was a different mood among the tripartite alliance this time compared to last year.

All they (SACP and Cosatu) were saying is that while the ANC has erred in the past, with the support of these workers here today the ANC can be the only party that will deliver change in the country.

Some areas don't have water, even here at the stadium there is no water.

In Western Cape, the Democratic Alliance held its Worker's day rally at Hillsong Church in Century City.

Eyewitness News reporter Gaye Davis says the Western Cape Premier Helen Zille told the party supporters to keep the province blue in the coming elections.

She (Helen Zille) gave a very brief speech. She simply said she wants the province to be kept blue.

There are real concerns that the DA's majority in the province is at risk. They are bleeding support to smaller parties.

In Alexandra, the Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema received a hero's welcome at the Johannesburg township.

Eyewitness News reporter Bonga Dlulane says Malema told those attending the rally that the ANC needs to held accountable for the money allocated to improve Alexandra through the Alexandra Renewal Project.

He said it is heartbreaking to see that nothing has changed even though the ANC has promised that when Alex changed 100 that the renewal project would be implemented.

He named Paul Mashatile and the current economic development MEC and David Makhura that R1.6 billion of that money needs to be accounted for.
