The region is traditionally known as Zuma and the Inkatha Freedom Party's (IFP's) stronghold.

Eyewitness News reporter Nthakoana Ngatane says some IFP supporters have refused to let the ANC into their homes.

Some of them said to ANC, no you cannot come into my house because I am an IFP supporter. Some of hem were saying that the ANC really hasn't done anything. Many of the areas we have gone to have gravel roads, people are driving wheelbarrows to go and fetch water and here we are with an entourage of the ANC with German cars.

Nthakoana Ngatane, Reporter - Eyewitness News

Yes, some accepted the secretary-general and said they would vote for the ANC but it can go two ways because this is quite a divided region.
