'Caster is indomitable'

3 May 2019 3:22 PM
Semenya's lawyer Gregory Nott says she's taken the IAAF ruling in her stride and is ready to race in Doha on Friday evening.

Caster Semenya is ready to compete and win in the Doha Diamond League on Friday evening, says member of her legal team, Gregory Nott from Norton Rose Fullbright.

The Olympic champion made a late entry for the 800 metre event after losing her appeal against the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) ruling to regulate testosterone levels in women athletes.

Nott says the way she's dealt with the disappointment is characteristic of the fighting spirit he's come to know during the ten years he's represented Semenya.

It is a huge disappointment, but at the same time you know, Caster is indomitable.

She's taken on the disappointment stoically, with great fortitude and, (is) quite frankly, upbeat.

He says the champion has been buoyed by the support of fellow athletes throughout the process.

We've had Billie Jean King, (Martina) Navratilova, we've had the South African rowing team contributing money towards the fight... The list goes on.

According to Nott it's too early to say what Caster will decide about her future.

She's ready to go to the next step, whatever that may be.

In the loss there's a win for her in the sense it's drawn a real moment in terms of history.

Finally, Nott urges local fans to catch Semenya's Doha race on television.

What can fans expect? They can expect a win, so give a good shout.
