Cape Town taxis barricade Somerset Road, demand operating permits
Cape Town taxi drivers on Monday used their vehicles to barricade Somerset Road in Green Point, demanding attention from the city.
EWN reporter Shamiela Fisher says passengers have been left stranded while the drivers are protesting.
The taxi drivers are saying they are not going to move until they are addressed by the city. They are saying the issue of permits has been going on for quite some time and nothing is being done about it.Shamiela Fisher, Reporter - EWN
Fisher spoke to a taxi driver who refused to reveal his identity.
He says they need operating permits from the city but they have been ignored and barricading the busiest road is the only way to get the city's attention.
They are always in workshops and meetings, not available to speak to us...Taxi driver
Now the entire thing is in the city's hands. If we have to stand here for the whole day, we will stand here for the whole day.Taxi driver
