2019 South African general election: Analysis and News

Don't vote for history, vote for a very selfish reason, says Eusebius

Eusebius McKaiser urges all South Africans to go out and cast their votes because it is the right thing to do.

McKaiser says you must vote for selfish reasons and not leave it up to chance.

You have to realise that as a citizen you have an enormous opportunity to make sure that the legal power that the government will have, regardless of whenever you vote or not, is one that you decide on in terms of who has access to that power that is vested in the executive.

Eusebius McKasier, Show host

He says people must not base the desire to vote solely on the historical legacy like the fact that Nelson Mandela was in jail for 27 years.

Don't vote for history, don't vote for the struggle against apartheid. Vote for a very selfish reason that a bunch of people are going to have an enormous amount of power over you and me.

Eusebius McKasier, Show host

Eusebius shares his experience of casting his vote in Sandton.

Everyone in the queue where I was voting was warmly dressed, that was the first thing that struck me. A lot of people have takeaway cups of coffee and behind me was a lovely couple that had their K9 friend who had a bowl of water that had been brought for it by the owners.

Eusebius McKasier, Show host

I thought to myself how many South Africans have clean drinking water. Inequality weighed in on me.
