Alan Winde says should the Democratic Alliance retain the province, he wants to set a new benchmark.

DA premier candidate in the Western Cape, Alan Winde says Wednesday's voting process and experience compared to that of 1994.

He thanks Capetonians for their courage queueing in the rain and braving the cold in order to cast their votes.

People were standing in the rain and that was really great for me to see.

When asked about the results so far, Winde says he is "cautiously optimistic".

He speaks about some of the changes he will be implementing as premier of the Western Cape.

I want to take the new cabinet and say we have to make sure that we put up open cards and go for the lifestyle audit. Let's set the benchmark.
