'We are not surprised by our performance' - ATM

The African Transformation Movement (ATM) says the party has performed very well with over 40 000 national votes and expects to do better at a provincial level.

Results are trickling in as counting continues at the National Results Operations Centre in Tshwane.

The final tally is expected to be announced over the next seven days.

Speaking to Joanne Joseph on the Afternoon Drive, ATM's national chairperson Mandisa Mashiya says they are not surprised by their performance and that they are hoping for more than one seat in Parliament.

We are feeling that as we are going into the broader metros and other big areas, you will be seeing a change there.

So far so good for ATM, we are very happy.

Speaking on the party's stronghold according to the results, Mashiya says the party hopes to get more than one seat in Parliament.

Over 50% [of national votes] is from the Eastern Cape and we are showing strength in KZN and the Free State .

Meanwhile the Freedom Front Plus has not disputed suggestions that a part of the Democratic Alliance's (DA) constituency has moved on to support it.

The FF Plus Gauteng executive Corne Mulder says this is a possibility.

These people believed that the DA would have stood up for them in the past, which they did not. They could not identify exactly who the DA is anymore. They were a party of ideas but now they are just populistic and that is not good enough.

Patricia de Lille's GOOD party has also made some great strides for a party that was formed only four months ago.

de Lille says she has not been disappointed by the response and that the results will form a solid foundation.

This is a solid foundation that we can build on going into the 2021 elections.
