Western Cape IEC head Courtney Sampson gives an update of the overall election process and how counting progressed overnight.

The counting of the 2019 national elections votes is still underway as South Africans wait in anticipation to see which parties will be representing them in Parliament.

The Independent Electoral Commission head in the Western Cape Rev Courtney Sampson speaks to CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies about the counting process.

He says the final results for the Western Cape might be out by Friday midday.

Sampson commended IEC officials for working tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of the elections.

Sampson says as the provincial electoral head, he tries his best to positively receive all the criticism and not to personalise issues.

When people are frustrated, they are frustrated. It doesn't help to get into an argument with them. People expect to be heard and to be taken seriously.
