Brand Management specialist Solly Moeng weighs in on how some parties can save their reputations after a battering at the polls.

As results come in for the 2019 elections in South Africa, parties are having to go back to the drawing board to assess some disappointing results.

Moeng says the Democratic Alliance took the biggest knock despite the criticisms South Africans have with the ruling party.

I think it was right up to the end that the DA began to talk about the content of its offering. For much of the time it was all about 'oh look at what the ANC has done wrong.' It was always about pointing fingers.

They were telling South Africans things that they know, things that are out there already.

South Africans wanted the DA to tell them the content of what they going to do and they failed to do that.

Moeng says many South African voted for the ANC because they believe in what Ramaphosa can do.

He says Ramaphopsa made it hard for Mmusi Maimane to win these elections.

The ANC's internal politics seem to have cost the party votes in the Western Cape, says Moeng.

In the Western Cape, the ANC just seems to only appeal to the black or coloured people and it is accepted as that. But they need to have messages that appeal to all the people of the Western Cape.
