Democratic Alliance campaign director Mbali Ntuli says KZN is a difficult terrain because of the geography and number of parties.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) might lose its position of being the official opposition party in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) is gaining ground in the province after being unseated and losing some support due to the formation of the National Freedom Party (NFP).

DA KwaZulu-Natal campaign director Mbali Ntuli says the party is satisfied because the results are showing significant growth.

What people don't realise is how difficult the terrain is in KZN because of the number of parties and the geography of that province.

READ: 'DA took a knock because it's always pointing fingers'

The DA has been an urban party in KZN. We are excited we hit the numbers we were hoping for.

Ntuli says the IFP had a good campaign in northern KZN.

The winning point here is that we are increasing in places we were not there before and the IFP is growing in areas they were dominant in already.

She says it is disappointing they have lost their position in some provinces to the EFF.

It is disappointing, and it must give us a pause. We must go back to the drawing board.
