ANC dips below 50% in Gauteng as results trickle in

When early results were counted on Thursday morning, they indicated that for the very first time the ANC had dipped below the 50% mark.

EWN reporter Thando Kubheka says the ANC in Gauteng is currently sitting at 49.63% with over 60% of the ballots tallied.

The ANC has reacted to the current numbers saying that people should wait for the counting to be completed in order to get a clear picture.

They [ANC] were saying that opposition parties shouldn't celebrate yet because their strongholds are still being counted, especially places like Soweto.

Khubheka says the Democratic Alliance said it was confident that the ANC will be kept at below 50% mark.

The DA is also saying that some of its strongholds are still being counted in Gauteng. It is currently sitting at 28% mark.

They are saying they are happy with the outcomes thus far.

They are pretty much optimistic that they may do better and get over that 30% mark but it's still early days.
