The African National Congress (ANC) emerged victorious by winning the national elections and President-elect Cyril Ramaphosa is set to return to the Union Buildings.
To speak about the party's success, 702's Bongani Bingwa chats to ANC veteran Cheryl Carolus.
We must understand that the president cannot go and arrest people, he has certain things within his authority and I think he has done that quite well.— Cheryl Carolus, Veteran - ANC
This new mandate that he has, and the electoral victory as the ANC, I do not doubt that it makes him act. If you listen to him carefully, he has been very clear about the fact that those associated with corrupt practices and unethical behaviour should be dealt with.— Cheryl Carolus, Veteran - ANC
She believes that locking people up is not the president's job.
We must allow the law to take its course and for people to have access to justice if they are accused of wrongdoing. We do expect the president to do what he is supposed to do and I do not doubt that he will.— Cheryl Carolus, Veteran - ANC
When probed as to whether ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule is a liability, Carolus had this to say.
I think Ace Magashule has been acting in an incredibly divisive and reckless way in many instances and in ways that I find disappointing for someone holding that office - I expect the organisation to take him to task.— Cheryl Carolus, Veteran - ANC
She says the nation has spoken and she hopes that everyone including Magashule will listen and carry the mandate forward.
