[LISTEN] Adriaan Basson says Ramphosa may need to watch his back post elections

News 24 Editor Adriaan Basson believes Cyril Ramaphosa's power will immediately be challenged from Luthuli House as former president Jacob Zuma's supposed camp regroups to "undermine and ultimately unseat him."

Basson has written an opinion piece as Ramaphosa is set to be be inaugurated as president once again.

He joined Joanne Joseph on the Afternoon Drive to share more of his views.

He says there is a theory within the African National Congress (ANC) that Lindiwe Sisulu may be used to unseat Ramaphosa.

There was a very interesting article yesterday in the Sunday Independent which cited Lindiwe Sisulu and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as possibly taking over from Mabuza.... Sisulu ultimately has her eye on the presidency, and there is a theory in the ANC that Sisulu may be used by the Ace Magashule or lets say Zuma camp to get rid of Cyril Ramphosa ultimately.

Basson says this is not the only challenge Ramaphosa will face.

The other problem is that DD Mabuza is on that list which the integrity committee of the ANC has given to the NEC to say these comrades are not supposed to feature in Parliament. Ramaphosa can hardly say get rid of these ones but keep these ones because they helped me remain president....
