EFF says they tried every channel to have nepotism claims against Manuel probed

Lawyers for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have told the courts that they tried every channel to have their claims against former finance minister Trevor Manuel investigated before publishing a statement on social media.

Manuel is taking legal action against the party, accusing them of defamation for suggesting South African Revenue Services (Sars) commissioner Edward Kieswetter’s appointment was based on nepotism.

The EFF has told the court that their decision to release that statement on social media platforms was because they tried all other channels to try and get these claims investigated.

According to the EFF lawyers, the leaders of the party did try to get Parliament to investigate the claims of nepotism and that there was a relation between Manual and Kieswetter.
